Navigating Complexity: Systems Thinking for a Thriving Planet
by NOVA School of Business and Economics
As we face the urgent need to operate within the limits of Earth’s vital systems, it is increasingly evident that conventional approaches to problem-solving fall short. The ecological, social, and economic challenges of our time are deeply interconnected, and complex and cannot be addressed through linear thinking or isolated actions. Complexity surrounds us: in our minds, our organizations, our communities, our ecosystems, and the very fabric of the planet. While passion and commitment are essential, they are no longer enough. We must shift our mental models and learn to engage with the intricate dynamics that shape our world.
In this context, systems thinking emerges as a vital capacity for those who aspire to lead transformative change. It enables us to better understand complexity, see interdependencies, and design more strategic and regenerative responses. This session invites participants to reflect, connect, and reimagine what meaningful change can and should look like. Through practical tools, new approaches to decision-making, and engaging dialogue, we will explore how systems thinking can help unlock more effective solutions to the pressing challenges facing our societies, our environment, and the balance that sustains all life on Earth.
